As a non-profit organization Camp Butterfly takes pride in providing support and inspiration to young women and girls, providing opportunities that transform lives and create productive citizens and leaders of tomorrow.

Camp Butterfly is a one-week, culturally enriched camp experience for teen girls of African descent, ages 11-17. We are currently seeking Volunteer Camp Counselors for our camps in 2007.

Camp Butterfly offers some traditional camp programming (i.e. arts & crafts, athletics and personal development exercises) as well as activities designed to build self esteem, create a positive self image, increase cultural awareness and foster a sense of community. The Camp sites are located in Watervliet , Michigan (which is approximately 100 miles from Chicago ) and White Leaf, Illinois (which is approximately 120 miles from Chicago ).

Qualifications:

BA desirable but not mandatory. Experience, interest and/or certification in the following are needed:

Arts & Crafts (beadwork, pottery, doll making, painting, leather, textile design)

Athletics (softball, canoeing, volleyball, tennis, double-dutch, group games, etc.)

Fine Arts (African dance, poetry, music, drama, etc.)

Certifications

  • Senior Life Saving
  • Water Safety Instructor
  • Nurse
  • CPR
  • First Aid

Training and Orientation will be provided. Excellent experience for future teachers, pre-med students, psychology majors, and those working in social and human services. All applicants will be subject to a background check.
