Testimonials
I enjoyed working with Camp Butterfly as an auntie. As I participated in the activities I thought, “I wish I could have went to a camp like Camp Butterfly as a young girl.” It really helped my self esteem and self awareness even as an auntie. I also enjoyed meeting and working with the campers (cousins). I hope to join again. Peace and Blessings to Camp Butterfly.

Camp Butterfly brings girls together from all over and teaches us how to get along and respect one another and ourselves. It helps you open up and talk about how you’re feeling and what’s troubling you in your life so you can change and make an impact on your life and others.

This work has touched my heart, changed my life and blessed me with a village of powerful women and amazing girls, who continue to touch the hearts and change the lives of others. This community embodies the transformative power of the butterfly and restores the blessings of love and laughter and confirms the promise of endless possibilities for the new world daughters of Mother Africa.

Serving at Camp Butterfly as an Auntie was a healing and affirming experience for me personally. I enjoyed helping to shape, heal, and celebrate the next generation of women. It was a joy to see their potential unfolding.

Camp Butterfly is the cocoon that provides us with the space and opportunity to heal and develop girls and women of African descent. The Camp Butterfly experience has left an imprint on my life and has helped me to find creative strategies to impact the lives of my community by addressing the needs of girls and women of African descent. In Camp Butterfly I have found a collective of girls and women who are committed and able to heal a nation and heal our world!

I have three butterflies, or beautiful black girl children. All three of my girls have experienced Camp Butterfly. My girls are ages 13, 9, and 2. Camp Butterfly has increased our communication skills; therefore creating an environment with less stress!!

Camp Butterfly has changed my life in so many ways. This awesome program has taught me how to respect myself more as well as respect and honor the girls whom were served. Camp Butterfly has the potential to exceed the services provided to girls of African descent by Girl Scouts because it has the “missing link”; our girls need to be made leaders for our community - today!
˜ Auntie Niambi Shalewa, 2006, 2008
Camp Butterfly helped me so much that I want to do more of Camp Butterfly. I also want to set up tables more at Camp Butterfly. I loved swimming and the fish...but we didn't see no turtles...but the swans were pretty. I also liked the tie dye shirts. I still wear my tie dye shirt.

Volunteering with Camp Butterfly has re-focused my purpose in life. My aspirations are now centered on making a difference and continuing to work on bettering myself so that I can be a source of guidance and support for young girls.

I came to camp for the first time in 2007 and it was the most wonderful experience I have ever had. It’s healing and gives the chance for minds to expand. It also gives the opportunity for women to give the natural gifts we are blessed with; so if you have never been come meet your family!!
˜ Auntie Tauria Staples, 2007, 2008, 2009
Camp Butterfly is such an essential in our community. Camp Butterfly provides a haven for the girls and the women to transform their lives. While in camp we experience changes that last a life time. It reminds us to be whole as it prepares us to deal with everyday issues with fortitude and competence.
